Job Description: Chairman/Vice chairman of Trustees of Christmas Day at the Greeno, elected annually at the AGM

2026/2027 vacancy for a transition year vice chairman to shadow current chairman who is retiring in September 2027, with the intention of succeeding as chairman.

 

About Us

Christmas Day at the Greeno is a small, community-focused charity dedicated to providing a full  Christmas Day programme at the Greeno Centre including a full three course lunch with presents and gifts for those in Shepperton and surrounding area. (We are independent of the Greeno Centre.)

We rely on a small team of trustees and volunteers to organise the event, source all goods and services, and help out on Christmas Day.

 

Role Purpose

The chairman of trustees leads the trustees and organisers in preparing and putting on the Christmas Day Community Lunch.  They are ultimately responsible for the governance of the charity.

Key Responsibilities

• Arrange and chair trustee meetings (typically 3 or 4 per year), and arrange AGM.

• Lead the trustees in setting and reviewing the charity’s strategic aims and policies (e.g. safeguarding).

• Monitor financial performance and ensure robust financial controls and risk management.

• Act as the lead ambassador for the charity within the community.

• Lead and encourage the trustees and team leaders and ensure that all organisational areas are functioning correctly.  Take action where needed to ensure tasks are carried out appropriately and on time.

• Work well as part of a team and are willing to speak their mind.

• Understand the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship.

• Must have experienced at least one Christmas Day with us before taking over as chairman.
